Port forwarding is the key. Use Google to find 2 things: the ports or port range used by your filesharing program and a tutorial on port-forwarding with any of the newer Linksys router/switches. You'll want your router to forward the appropriate ports directly to the computer running the filesharing application.

Fair warning: even forwarding a small range of ports directly to machines behind your router will expose them to the internet and to your ISP's security port scans. This may entail a small surprise on next month's statement if you're sharing an internet connection--it's normally against your provider's Terms of Service.
