Scan your computer with an antivirus scanner.

Start with the basics..
Spyware scan Antivirus Scan
Then look at any hardware or driver changes you did. Look at any updates you have done.
Next look for updated drivers that run any hardware.

spyware, schmyware.... Basic is - going into BIOS and see if drive is detected there. If not, it is probably toast. Right click on My Computer and go to Manage. Then choose Disk Management under the Storage category. Is the drive listed? If so, can you assign a drive letter to it? (Hint: right click on drive)

About a week ago, my hard drive wasnt detected by BIOS either. I checked the BIOS and there was no hard drive recognized, so I changed the hard drive setting to Auto detect. If your BIOS has a setting like this or similar to this, try it.

hmm well i checked the bios n my hardrive is being recognized. and i reinstalled windows XP on my system HD( 10 gigs) and now my 120gig shows up on my "my computer". however wen i tried to read it stalls, or eventually a message will pop up tellin me it is corrupted or unreadable. so right now my comp is runnin solely on the C ( sys hd) and take bout 5 mins to load, and periodic times where i cant acces my start menu or any minimized windows, then returns to normal for a bit. im hopin its just an IDE problem for my D, but im pretty sure i have to format my sys hd. is there a chance that if i fixed my sys hd my main hd will b aite as well??
