Harddrive going NUTZ

Every time i logon and XP loads my harddrive won't Stop doing something in the backround. It keeps on flashing and doing something for hours and hours & its going nuts. My cable modem is off, so it not doing nothing on the web.....strange ! I checked everything and it seems to be OK. Somebody please help me how to fix this problem?

Sounds like your drive is being indexed (for faster file finding). This is controlled by the Indexing Service. It can be turned off in the Services section of My Computer, Manage.

Sorry, but my Indexing Service is set to Manual! Drive is still going Nuts every day. Its realy starting to piss me off. :(

Some suggestions: (1) How much memory do you have ? It may have something to do with Windows using the virtual memory on the hard drive. (2) Did you try running a virus scan ? That's a possiblity, but I hope you don't have some sort of virus. (3) You might check the Task Scheduler to see if it is set to run anything. (4) You may try closing all programs, then hit Control-Alt.-Delete keys. This will bring up the Task Manager; you can look thru the list of processes running and perhaps give you a clue as to what is running the hard drive so much.
Summary: Do you know what brand of harddrive? Go to the support site and download the program that comes with the drive to the initial format and install it as a new drive. Maxtor's is called Maxblast, Western...
