Odd problem that popped up is my computer will no longer restart through windows when i choose to do so. It will restart and sometimes get to my desktop, sometimes not, but it will then freeze and my mouse can't move. Only when i manually press the restart on my tower will it restart without a glitch. I get no errors at all. Any suggestions?

It could be an application or process is running when you restart that is refusing to stop and thus windows gets stuck. Perhaps try a proecess of elimination and use task manager to close apps/processes one by one restarting after each to see if one is the culprit.

Have you installed or updated any drivers lately? Try booting into safe mode and see if it freezes there. It is possible that you may have a hardware issue like your hard drive. If the system works fine in safe mode, then it is more likely it is an application or driver issue. From the run command, type in eventvwr.msc and look under applications and system for errors.

If this only happens in the morning when the box is cold/cool, it most likely is a hardware problem. All materials shrink a little when cooled and expand a litle when warmed. This can cause flaky electrical connections to break and make. Reseating all the connectors might solve the problem, but flaky connections can also be inside electronic components. Not much you can do about that except replace the electronic component.

If safe mode doesn't help, try to boot from the XP installation CD and perform a repair installation. For that you need to check BIOS setting (to make CD/DVD-ROM the first boot device).
