If you are trying to use a Win9x floppy, that could be the problem. Win98 and sometimes Fdisk cannot handle NTFS drives. Download and run DelPart to remove any partitioning. Then try again.

You deleted the partition after installing XP. So, are you attempting to reinstall XP and running into problems partitioning it?
So, what are the specs and the problem with the second computer?

That's right. Download it and put it on a bootable floppy.

If you're installing XP, you don't need to partition the drive before installing. You can do that during the install process.
