Swapped my XP drive into an older system AMD 450mh system and the drive won't autodetect. Is this a BIOS issue? What is the best way to resolve this if I want to use this drive in this computer?

HI,
Did you get like an BLUE SCREEN of death??? If so, I got the same problem. I did asked my teacher for this b4 and their answer is because your AMD setting aren't the same is your Pentium, especially if you are using pen4. That's all they can tell me, theirs solution is reformat under your Pen System.
Good Luck,

mine won't auto detect either........I think it is a common problem with xp and would love to resolve this problem

I did get the blue screen of death. I will try to reformat with the P4 system using XP however I am not having much luck with that since all WIN xp wants to do is copy itself after the format, any suggestions on how to do a clean wipe out on this drive?

i also have a similar problem i have a 2g a 20g and a 40g hdrive i have installed on the 40g dual boot 98 + xp this drive is primary master and if i put the 20 g on slave it wont detect it in xp, however if i boot into 98 then this drive is availabe to use.
although when xp doesnt detect the 20 g hd
it is detected by the bios and also in system manager and believe it or not xp says that it has found it and configured it but alas it is not visible in explorer ???
the 20g is the only one not formatted with xp installed so this seems to be the problemthe 2g hdd works ok however it is set up as this has been formatted and xp installed
just thought this might shed some light on it for you
Later

okay.. i fyou change anything like hdd, video, network card, sound card.. hey that's cool with xp (not sure about cpu but i think it should be fine)
now when you are swapping the hdd with the OS in there.. then no you cannot do that..
today, me and my boss where trying out sysprep and blah blah finding a way around this dumb problem that you guys are having it wont' work.. you cannot change MOTHERboards.... who knows.. maybe someone out there knows a way around... other than that you cannot change mobos :)
bye

Hi, I'm having the same stupid problem as you guys. I installed windows xp on an 8G drive as the master, and now it won't detect my 4G slave drive with Win98. Just like you, if I change the 4G (Win98) to master, and the 8G (WinXP) to slave then I have all the access I want. Problem being that WinXP won't detect the Windows98 installation nor the slave drive itself. I think this could be a formatting incompatibility, not sure though. Windows XP generally uses NTFS file system so this might be the root of the problem, or it might just be a bug in the XP system. I would suggest trying Partition Magic and detect it using that.
