OS: Xp / 2003
CPU/Ram: Barton 3200 1GB
Comment:

I just recently bought a Shuttle XPC SN45G, and a WD 250 GB hard drive, Audigy 2 Plat. eX, radeon AIW 9700 pro, DVD/CDRW COMBO.

When I open up the hard drive box there is a blue paper telling me Win XP, 2000, etc have hard drive size limits of 137 GB.

If I partition the 250 GB drive to smaller drives such has two 125 GB. Will that solve the size problem?

I cant use the PCI controller card, or the Software that western digital provides because it is for Intel System Boards.

SIDE NOTE:
I have installed Win Server 2003 right now because there wasnt a HD size limit that i could find, but it isnt supported very well by third party software / hardware (LOGITECH MX DUO) the first Button use screen wont go away.

Depends how you format said drive. If you opt for FAT32 then your partition limit would be 32 gig, but with NTFS there is no limit whatsoever. So I'm assuming if you format the drive as NTFS, then it will be recognised and usable with Xp.

Ok, Thats the answer that I was looking for, I think. Of course im going with NTFS. Next Question is why Doesnt Western Digital just say that? Argh, they make things so complicated.

FYI: NTFS, NTFS5 and FAT32 ALL have a
maximum volume size of 2TB although
performance is better with NTFS for large
volumes. FAT16 is said to have a maximum
size of 2GB although your can use an NT4 CD
to create a 4GB FAT16 partition.

The Windows XP Service Packs have addressed the problem of the 137 GB limit.

Just wondering if a striped RAID array would be possible using Windows ME with two 80GB drives totaling 160GB or would the 137GB limit be in effect here as well? Should I use XP if I'm going to go RAID?
