Hi,
I recently purchased a 250gb maxtor that I needed a to hook up to a pci card (scsi controller? raid adapter?) to get full performance out of the drive. In any event it was working fine for me except that almsot everytime i would move my computer from my dorm to my home the d: drive (the 250gb hard drive) would not be recognized. What i would have to do was open up my case and disconnect the ide cable and plug it back in, in order that my drive would show up in my computer. Now what is happening however is tht this solution isnt working and i i saw that in device manager it give me an exlamation mark with this error message under my ide controller:
This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.

i tried switching jumpers on teh hd from master ot cable select and no dice. also i tried switching the ide cable to the second ide connection on the pci card and then it still didint recognize the drive but eh exlamation point went away in device manager.

If you can give me any suggestions i need access to this hd as soon as possible using the card, not going around it. thank you

Go to Device Manager, double-click on the IDE Controller, then Resources Tab, uncheck use automatic settings then make changes if necessery to ensure everything in the window above is not conflicting.

If you cannot uncheck use automatic settings, go into the BIOS and change the Plug & Play Aware Operating System option to Yes, and try again.
