Lately I have this problem that my hard disk is not detected.. This happens lets just say 50% of times.. And computer screen hangs on the ASUS Logo Screen.. When i press del it shows auto-detecting IDE.. When i start BIOS, hard disk drive is not shown there too.. Recently most of my computer parts went for replacement.. and i got ASUS M2N68AM-Plus motherboard ( which was originally M2N68AM ) i got AMD X2 250 which was AMD X2 6000+ and my hard disk drive was also replaced.. ram is still in replacement.. and m using another ram.. so to say in all everything except my cdrom and cabinet is new.. So what can this problem be. And i think My CDROM (samsung octoedge) is detected in the BIOS. And i would like to repeat that my hard disk is not detected 50% of the time i start my computer.. otherwise my computer runs ok..

Is the drive SATA or IDE? It sounds a bit like you might have a flaky ribbon cable.

Having replaced the other components which involves pulling and re-connecting the cables it is possible the data cable to the drive has been damaged.
