I tried to transfer my hard drive from my computer now, a P4 comuter into an older P3 computer. Hard Drive contains windows xp pro. and a lot of data. when i got it in, the computer started up, detected the drive and started to load windows. When the little bar went by, and just before the boot screen, the computer froze. Safe mode froze after all the text loaded. Now, i hear it may be the windows security error thing. so i tried the repair install. but when it booted and started loading the CD, the computer went blank and froze right after the "scanning your computers hardware configuration" screen. Does it look like something else is wrong here?
PIII-500
RAM-512
ATI vid card. WD hard drive.

XP is linked on install to the hardware of the PC, therefore unless the hardware is very similar you can not move the hard drive to another PC and expect it work. It is to do with piracy, one pc one O/S!

I had SP2. according to that, it should have booted for 3 days with warning. and it also does not explain why my CD-ROM setup process failed.

Your Windows install has many settings/drivers blah blah blah related to your previous machine and if you just drop it into a new machine with different hardware you're going to get conflicts.

Sorry per, this isn't a WPA issue! That was funny, though! You're still a card!!!
