I installed xp and have the hard drive light flashing every minute or so at idle and the hour glass will pop up also. I went into services and disabled some items that I didn't need but it still does it. When I'm playing a game and this happens the game kinda hangs for a second or so. (Something is trashing my hard drive?) Anyone know what is causing this? I used a spy ware program but detected nothing.

It's windows doing it. I don't have full knowledge of what goes on, but one thing I do know about is that windows periodically rebuilds the registry. Annoying ain't it?

IT's got to do with your swap file. You might try a (free RAM) program. With what you have it shouldn't be a factor.But I am sure that is what it is. Windows is updating the swap files so your hard drive is rewriting info. NO BIG DEAL.

No way seat6, it's not page swapping. I have xp installed on another system and have the exact same settings disabled in services and the other system doesn't do it. It used to, until I disabled alot of unnecessry stuff in services and that stopped it. I also had it stopped on my system until I had to do a clean install of xp. I re disabled all the same stuff in services but it didn't stop it this time.
