This is a bad problem. I'm booting up the computer but it doesn't boot up because of some unknown reason. The hard drive light is flashing continuously at a regular interval, and none of the hard drives are detected. This all happened after I tried a somewhat defective DVD burner that locked up the entire computer...I hope the hard drive data is still intact...

Any suggestions what I should attempt first?

Thanks.

Eli, suspect that when the new drive was installed, drivers got rewritten and corrupted. Strikes me that probably your only hope is to remove the new drive, cross fingers and see if you can reboot. If perchance so, I'd make a backup image IMMEDIATELY and then see if restore would take me back to a preinstallation time.

reset bios to optimum defaults.....that should force it to reconfigure all drives....

I removed the drive but the error still persisted. There are two hard drives, and I removed the second one, and the first one (with the operating system on it) booted up successfully. So now I'm confused. Is my second hard drive okay? I didn't touch the BIOS.

"drivers got rewritten and corrupted" how would that be possible, since it can't even get past the boot-sequence, assuming you're talking about Windows?

Thanks.

Quick update.

I had the 2nd hard drive installed on this hot-swappable drive thing. I figured if I wasn't using it much, what would happen if I removed it and loaded the hard drive by itself. And it did resolve the problems, so I'll just do without that swapping thing.

Thanks for your help, though.
