hard drive has open files ??????

i am having major problems , i have got partition magic installed and when i check my drive it says it is unable to do this my harddisk has open files and that i should run the operating system check utility.
i have ran checkdisk but didnt come up with any errors
i am trying to un hide another partition but partition magic is not saying that it is hidden although is not accessible through windows (i hid the partition so i know very well that it is hidden. any ideas

You probably need Partition Magic 7.0 for XP.

Just checking... You are running the Partition Magic prog from a boot disk in DOS mode arent you? Because if it runs under Windows files will be open for sure
