Sony came with 80 GB w/16 allocated to hard drive. "Properties" says only 600 MB available. I've used less than 4GB by my count in the C files.
1. Following previous bits of advice found in other postings have looked for and NOT FOUND "Quota tab" under c drive properties to make sure "enable quota management" is not checked. So I do not know about that.
2. New and unchanged: uses System Fat 32
3. Tried to follow previous directions re: C:\Documents and settings\ the user you are logged in with\Local Settings\Temp and... was unable to follow the directions given.4. I SUSPECT! but do not know what to do about it - that this has something to do with the fact that somehow I messed up the "Restore" function and cannot/do not have set back points. (did this trying to install Symantec's firewall -- dang it - finally just subscribe to my ISP's)
Is there any help for me and my pc?
Thanks for any help, gailsey

fdisk and format the drive after a back up. when you get into fdisk ( on win 98 boot disk) you'll need a ntfs file reader you can obtain this from ntfs.com then run fdisk (C:/fdisk) then choose option 4 and then wipe all partitoons according to the info there you'll know what sort of partitions you have.

Many thanks to "robynsrodents" however, I finally figured out the fix and I'm feeling so stupid - but...
My XP had two desktop "users" and on checking the C drive for the alternate user, I discovered it had 10.1 GB of FREE!!!! space. Since that user now has own computer and one can save their files to the other user's desktop - I closed that "user" account and it restored the 10.1 GB to my account. TOO SIMPLE, but it has had me bugged for quite some time.
Not to mention that I finally realized that I could access the D drive where 60.2 GB were waiting for me to use. I learn more each day. thanks, gailsey
