I would like to temporarily install my hard drive from Windows 98 to my new computer with win xp so that I can transfer data from the old win98 to winxp as there are some really large programs and files. How do I go about this??? I really appreciate any help and advice.

Just set your Win98 hard drive jumpers to "slave" and connect it to either IDE cable in your PC. Windows XP will recognize it and assign it a drive letter, probably E: or F: depending on how many drives you have installed in your system (Floppy, CDROM, burner, memory cards, zip drives, etc).
Then just go into "explorer" and drag and drop the files from one drive to the other as needed.
