Formatting the C drive will not affect other partitions but you will lose the operating system or some important files if you have a dual-boot set-up.

you will not lose anything on E if you format C only, but where is your OS is it not on the C drive? or are you re-formatting C to re-install the OS?

the issue, disable common startup programs,

I notice that I have given you that information in your last Post.
What you are suppose to do is a clean boot, then
see if you can get into My Computer without it freezing.

Missy, Now read my printing,, you will not lose anything on E by reformatting C, however to make sure you do not reformat E by mistake, take a side cover off and un-plug the ribbon from the E drive.

One sure way, without a lot of questions, is to transfer you data. Then turn computer off, disconnect(remove) the ribbon cable from the E drive, then format C.

Yes, once the OS is installed and all is running ok it will recognize the other drive, on some older systems one needed to enter the BIOS and re-detect the drives but if you have that problem just re-post.

I've formatted my c:\ drive with partitions in it many times and I have a second drive also. I haven't had any problems. When you format c:, the only drive that's formatted is 'c'.
Your should have no problems.

Remember you will have to reinstall all the programs you had as all the registry entries and program links are wiped out.

It will not effect drive E:, but you can't like save all of windows to your computer, you will have to re-install.

So, how are you going to save the data files to the E: drive again before formatting C:?

Personally, I think you should go the Clean boot route to see if you can repair your problems.

If the problems are related to a virus then moving files will likely move the virus too. Then after the reformat and reinstall you will also reinfect the machine placing you back to where you are now but several hours or days later.

But that is only my opinion,
Bryan
