hard disk may contain error

during xp installation, after partitions are created (using the XP disk), can't format hard disk, dont know why, it says the hard disk may contain error or its a scsi drive, i think the hard disk might be ide, but how to tell ide from scis? also how can i fix errors on a hard disk, is scandisk ok? thanks

Hi, IDE has 40 pin cable. SCSI have 50, 68, and 80 cabling, these are only a few, there are more. Bob

I've had this problem before, Try formatting the harddrive with a Win88 bootdisk. It should help. You can get a bootdisk here, http://freepctech.com/pc/002/files010.shtml
