during xp installation, after partitions are created (using the XP disk), can't format hard disk, dont know why, it says the hard disk may contain error or its a scsi drive, i think the hard disk might be ide, but how to tell ide from scis? also how can i fix errors on a hard disk, is scandisk ok? thanks

Hi, IDE has 40 pin cable.
SCSI have 50, 68, and 80 cabling, these are only a few, there are more.

I've had this problem before, Try formatting the harddrive with a Win88 bootdisk. It should help. You can get a bootdisk here,
