I had the same problem when I first installed Windows XP Home. It drove me crazy. I finally went start/run/msconfig and began turnning off all the programs that are loaded at startup. It took care of the problem. I had put in a request for email support from Microsoft and received confirmation from a Microsoft engineer that what I did would work correctly. Let me know if this helps!!
