Hello!
I have a little problem. I would like to make image file of my hard drive partition but as I have a lot of big files in there the image file will be very large. Is there some program out there which creates an image and leaves out selected files or folders?
I have tried Norton Ghost and it seems it cannot do that.
Or can I make a backup of Root, Windows, Program Files, Documents and Settings directoty and later restore windows from there? Pleeeease help!

Thanks in advance,
Laura

Disk imaging program such as Norton's Ghost or PowerQuest's Drive Image are for copying an entire partition only.

You might consider adding a second hard drive to your system which you could use for backup images. Hard drives are relatively inexpensive and easy to install.

You might be able to get away with this. Once the image is created you can use Ghost Explorer to go into the image and modify it (.ie adding deleting files). You could pull out the files and folders you don't need.

The catch - You can fully modify the image if it was created from a FAT16/32 partition. Images created from an NTFS partiton can't be modified as much. You can't add files to this image. I can't verify this right now but you may be able to at least delete files though.

I believe that True Image 6.0 allows to exclude files that you don't want to image.
It's made by Acronis.(www.acronis.com)
