I have a Dell 4400 computer that is about 18 months old. Not problems in the past. Nothing new has been added/ hardware or software. One day just failed to boot. I get the Dell emblem at start then the screen goes black. About 30 seconds later a error message is displayed" Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt. Windows\System 32\Config\System" A short message on how to repair with Setup CD. Problem is I can hear the cd-rom start light blinks then goes out. I put a floppy disk in and got A prompt and tried to goto C drive but no luck. Tried to start in safe mode, no luck. Checked all power connections and cables. I have check the Fourm for any like problem but couldn't find one like this. Please any help would be greatly appreciated

As its booting hit f8 repeatedly and you should see a boot screen , choose repair xp option and follow on screen instructions , i take it you dont have an original xp disk just a repair hp disk?.
