I did not recieve this problem because I simply copied HL from my other boot...
If you have HL somewhere on your system, you can simply run it from that location. The first time you run it, it will ask for the CD key.

If it is a fresh install, then there isn't much I can say. :/
Feel free to email if you need more help.

the reason why half-life won't install in XP is because your software is not compatible with the said environment. i also play half life but in the windows98 environment and so far i haven't encountered any problems of some sort. if you really want to play half life, you might want to go back to windows98.if you want to keep your XP, repartion your hard drive and make one partition windows98 compatible.

It works fine under WIN XP rc2 pro. But I can only run it under a user in the administrator group, none of the other users can do anything.

Mine installs and runs fine, up until you actually try to play. It can't detect the CD. I tried clicking Ok to make it check again, and I even put it in my other CD Drive. Does anybody know how to fix this?? THX

Before spend money on Windows XP, I try it....
So what the f**k with XP? I love it...
I install a windows XP Pro final 2600 and I installed Half-life, counter-strike, and when every setting are ok and ready to start, The game crash with a DLL error just a seconde before the game start...before the game change the video mode....

So...his it a better Idea to dont buy XP?

I have XP Pro running quite well with everything BUT Half-life! Installed new drivers for my GeFOrce2MX and reinstalled HL up to v1.1.0.8. But every mod STILL crashes to desktop right after the "loading" screen pops up. HELP! I want my DoD and CS!

I have XP and HL/CS are working fine and even better then before. You might need XP drivers for your vid card. Also mine is a fresh install on fat32.

My half life wont install at all! Whenever i open the setup.exe file the drive with my cd in whirrs for a second then just stops. No message, nothing. I can only assume that the setup file isnt compatible with an NT based environment... (it sux though - i really wanna play CS! lol)
