I've got winXP RC1 build 2505 running on my system right now. But i've got some mouse problems in Half Life, the problem is that in Half Life the mouse becomes very inaccurate and actually doesn't register very slow movements. If I move my mouse very slowly I can actually move it across the entire mat without the game registering everything. I have a USB MS Explorer mouse connected and have tried it in PS2 and even tried an old Serial Logitech mouse, but the same problem in all cases.
HELP?!

Open Half-life
> Go to the config section
> Click the button to redefi ne the controlls
> Click on advancedThere you should have a part down the bottom of the screen saying mouse sensetivity. Move it to the desired position.

Typing in the console, "sensitivity " will also allow you to play with the mouse sentivity without going back and forth to that menu. Mine is set at 6.5.
I also had a problem with acceleration in Win2k in the past. Try disabling this option (in the mouse settings under the control panel).

Ok, to the people who said "adjust your sensitivity" that is not the problem here. I could put the sensitivity to 10billion and it would still do this. I said "the game doesn't register very slow movements". And as for turning acceleration off I can not see an option to do that in the mouse properties. It was in winME mouse properties but I cannot see it here in winXP.

Perhaps also try turning off mouse smoothing... can't remember the console command for that, but you can disable that under advanced controls.
I have had this issue before in win2k, and fixed it by the accelleration function before.Perhaps play with all those variables... if you play the same as a majority of players, all you really needs is the mouse look enabled. Most of those are server variables anyway.

I too have the same issue as described in the first post. When making small movements with the mouse, which are normal under ME and 2K, under XP, the mouse barely moves. There is only one option other than pointer speed in XP and it doesn't help at all. There is going to need to be a driver update or a registry update to fix this. I wish Microsoft would have left it alone.

OK so I am not imagining this problem :P
There is acceleration on, and you cant put it off. It sucks for any game like q3 or cs. I want it off, but truly the only option that you can edit about mouse speed doesnt affect it at all. The mouse does feel good in windows but it sucks for gaming! My mouse is a logitech mouseman usb, and although I tried to install their drivers & mouse settings program, it wont work. Thus I cant even get my thumb button to use. This sucks :(

I too have the same issue as described in the first post. There is acceleration on, and you cant put it off. Waiting update...
if someone found something that could fix it post it here!

Yeah that acceleration really sucks.
I have in every "mouse" games like quake etc. same problem (mouse becomes very inaccurate and actually doesn't register very slow movements.)

read this.... maybe this can help us ...
"Well, for those of you who care (doesn't seem like many), I've found a solution to the problem. I read through the Halflife source code a bit and it turns out Half-life (and therefore Counterstrike) doesn't use Dinput for mouse data at all. They are using plain old boring Windows messages. On top of that, they are always turning on Windows mouse accel. by default when the game starts. You can disable this and use your Windows mouse config by adding the command line switch "-noforcemparms" to your Counterstrike shortcut.
This should make life much easier for Win2000 and WinXP users that hate mouse acceleration as much as I do. Hopefully you guys find this message. "

Yeah, but I would like to start cs with gamespy. And as gamespy doesnt want to start the game from a shortcut but only from real exe im still pissed off :< .
Noone knows how to covert the cstrike.exe in a cstrike.exe with the variable "-noforcemparms" ?
Is this possible?

ok. thanks that WORK! First Delete you gamespy it's bad program... this is much better http://www.udpsoft.com/eye/ Go "View--> options --> halflife and then add exmable
this to CMD Line: "E:\Half-Life\hl.exe -console -cstrike -32bpp -noforcemparms"
This work in gamespy too but i dont remember where is that option...

Damn it, thats fine for HL, but what do we Quakers do ? I've got the XP-final & the same problem as the other folks here... I made some regestry-changes concerning "MouseThreshold" etc., but that did no good. Guess we have to wait afterall =( thanks..

I have the exact same problem. And there isnt any Mouseware drivers that install properly on WinXP. I am running 2600 and every version of the Logitech Mouseware drivers dont install. I get unhandled exceptions and whatnot. So its up to Microsoft/Logitech to come up with a fix to this :)

Well, I actually play q3 more than cs, but i did not notice the "slow-movements" problem of HL. Its true that the sens has changed but if i turn off the "enhance pointer precision", i dont feel any acceleration in the movements.
Try to explain better how the mouse fails.

You know, I thought this was a problem with CS, but I don't think it is. Does your mouse, if moved side to side very fast, eventually move up and down as well? If I exit the came, my mouse movement remains erratic at times.. Anyone else?

Ok, I played q3 yesterday, and I found out that sometimes it works without accel. but sometimes it does not (LOL?).
I dont want to get mad with this stupid OS, so until they fix this problem i will reinstall winme.
Later folks

I'm going to post another message about mouse problems in general.. Mine definitely is not just within the game.

I have the same problem. I have an Intellimouse Optical, I've tried PS/2 and USB, same problem. Would installing INTELLIPOINT again do ANYTHING ??

The problem is still accurate with HL!
The solution for CS like above did not help for HL!Any hints?
PLEASE HEEEEEELP!

This doesn't turn off acceleration complete, but atleast some.
Go to Accessibility Options in Control Panel and choose the Mouse tab, enable Use MouseKeys, then click the Settings button, i guess you'll know what to do when you are there.. :)

Hi, i have found a way to remove mouse acceleration from both quake and counterstrike under winxp with a logitech mouse
For counterstrike, firstly uncheck all references to mouse acceleration in the mouse panel in control panel. Then go to accessability options in control panel, select the mouse tab, and sekect mouse acceletation to the the minimum and also select mouse pointer speed to low.
Then add this to the counterstrike/halflife "-noforcemparms", so for example my start up line for cs is "C:\Sierra\Half-Life\hl.exe -console -numericping -nojoy -noipx -game cstrike -noforcemparms"
This should remove all mouse acceleration in cs...
Quake/QW/Q3 to remove mouse acceleration do the above steps but then add this to your start up line "+_windowed_mouse 1 -dinput"Thats about it..
PS Make sure u have installe mouse ware on winxp. Contrary to popular belief there is a way to install it. Firstly dl the latest mouseware, then before u run the installation exe, right click on it, go properties and make sure compatibility mode is set to win2000. :)))))) Doh!
Done games and mouse sensitivity now work just as well in winxp as they did in win98 :)

I'm having a problem with WindowsXP 2600 and mouse movement in games.
I've tired a Microsoft cordless wheel mouse, a basic Logitech wheel mouse and a DEXXA Optical wheel mouse and have the same problem with each of them even after getting the latest drivers. I've tried the ME and the 2000 drivers for each. The problem occurs with the forced drivers from each of these mouse devices as well as with the default mouse drivers in XP.
Problem:
The mouse movement is very very choppy. I got a clue while trying to setup Madden 2k2 though. When you move the mouse pointer over any selectable option (ie: number of teams, screen resolution etc) the options start to scroll through all available selections on it's own so fast that you can't even read it. Now, no matter where you move the mouse pointer to, that last selectable option that you passed over will continue to scroll on it's own. The only way to get it to stop is to move the pointer over a different selection box. The first one will stop scrolling and the new choice will start to autoscroll. It's as if I were turning the mouse wheel at a hundred miles per hour. I've even installed a 2 button mouse with no wheel and it's own drivers, does the same thing.
Any idea?

I figured out how to fix any problems with ths mouse in any game in Windows XP. I had this problem in Quake II, and Half-Life. I fixed em both. Just disable any Mouse filter or smoothing, and it will all be nice :)
It also fixed that slow-no-move mouse problem Cymax had. Tell me if it works, dude. (thats not my real email address)
just reply on here. I hope this helps everybody. I struggled for HOURS to find out that simple solution heheh

GOD DAMN IT!!!!! I found out that didn't fix the whole problem. It DID fix the slow-ness problem, but there was still some acceleration. :(
If anybody has any idea how to fix ALL games, like Quake II, please post something. By the way, that Accesibility stuff didn't work at all.

Hy,
I have some serious troubles with my microsoft intellimouse (optical)and winXP.
In counter-strike there is something strange, when i move my mouse slowly i have a low sensitivity but when i move my mouse fast my sensitivity becomes very high. This phenomen is called acceleration i suppose, but when i turn of the acceleration in xp, the problem still occurs.
So i tried the suggestion to start my hl with this command:C:\Sierra\Half-Life\hl.exe -console -numericping -nojoy -noipx -game cstrike -noforcemparms" ---> its a little bit better but the mouse doesnt feel like win98se. Installing latest drivers wont do anything, even in win2k mode.
What to do about this? My story is the same as so many, but there has to be a sollution i suppose. Otherwise gaming and xp wont succeed.
ANYONE????

Try removing: "Enhance mouse precision", you can find that option in controlpanel/mouse/pointer option.

nooooooooo, after finding this long forum id have thought by the end of it there would be a solution...but no :(
I'm getting the problem in any game i try, Quake3, Unreal, HL - CS/TFC.
grrrrrrr
makes winXP totally useless unless there is a fix for this.

I had the same Problem, but "Reponse Number 25" solved it!!! (AT LAST!) Thx soooo much! :)
@ All here, that still have that Problem, didn't you read "Response Number 25" ?

ok guys this might help some of you. I was having an annoying problem playing TFC(halfLife) with my mouse and movement much similier to others on here.
Im using win2k pro and I finally figured out what the hell was causing my problems. It was ZONEALARM PRO. Dont ask me why or how but I just tested halflife with and without my ZAPRO and i can conclusively say, that my mouse/movement probs appear solved. Hope this helps some of you.

I thought I should follow up my last response inlight of some new info.
My movement problems in Halflife was due to some bizzare conflict with Win2k, Zonealarm and Logitech keyboard software.
At first I thought it was just zonealarm, but after I disabled some "zbrowser-logitech" stuff from being executed at startup, everything works fine. (this is with ZA on)
Hopefully this makes sense to some of you out there. If you are using win2k with ZA and a logitech itouch keyboard. Try disabling the logitech software from startup.
I realize there is no msconfig in win2k but if you look around you can find software that does the same thing. Goodluck--im out

XP screwed up my mouse sensitivity in Half-Life (and other games, applications) - would be great if microsoft scaled XP's mouse sensitivity and acceleration back to win98 levels

Yeh guys i am having the same problem useing the final of windows XP and when i play half life with the Microsoft Intellieye Optical Pro i get mouse choping and really unsensitive i did what post 25 said to do and the slow ness has stoped but still get this chopping and Mouse freezing if you like to call it where the mouse becomes so unsensitive that it just stops. If any one has fixed this please email @ bulmer@bigpond.net.au and il chat to you and c if we can work it out
thanx guys and gals.

the problem everyone is having with windows XP and logitechs mouseware is quite simple to fix, firstly u'll need to get the latest mouseware drivers here -http://www2.driverguide.com/files/uploads11/1160/mouseware929b100en.exe
once this is done run the setup, but dont go any further into the setup (ie. Dont finish it!!) open up explorer and go to your documents and settings, to your user profile\application data\temp and in there u will see a folder (or many) but one of them will have the extraced setup files for mouseware....copy that whole directory to another location on yer drive and u can finish the install of mouseware, but dont reboot.
Go to device manager and the update the mouse driver and choose to update manually from a specific location, and point it to where u had copied that folder to, and then to the win2000 directory, and open the inf file, you will get a s---load of logitech drivers to choose from and no doubt yer mouse will be there (i have the mouseman wheel ps2, and i can finally use my thumb button again ;p)
once that is done reboot the machine and then mouseware will detect yer correct mouse and u can configure it to yer hearts desire....i know this wont help with the problems in games, but at least u wont be restricted in what yer mouse can and cannot do ;)

to turn off mouse acceleration in q3 is simple type the command
/cl_mouseaccel 0
in console in quake 3..

HAHA!!!!!!!!!!
1. Read 25 cuz that roxx...
well.. go To this computer -> propties -> device -> Device manager -> Mouse -> Logitech blablabal -> Driver -> Rollback driver.. then you can use 2 buttons at the same time :)) (and the logitech driver s--- will disapper)

Here is how I solved it.
Start regedit
HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Control Panel > Mouse
Change MouseThreshold1 and MouseThreshold2 to 100000 or something like that.

haha thank fook i've found other folks who are having the same problems. Its been driving me nuts trying to get Quake II to run as it did in Win2k. Currently using WinXP v.2600 and finding that i'm having to run sens 20 to aim 'normally' but end up spinning 360 everytime i move the MS Intellieye Optical a bit to fast. Tried the latest ms opti winxp drivers, tried disabling the 'enhance mouse precision' cack, also tried h4x0ring the registry to disable the thresholds blah blah but with no joy. Gonna try some of your ideas posted in ere :-)
Fingers crossed i can delete the Win2K i just had to put back on just so i could play Q2!
...
Just the matter of sorting out the upside-down divx movies i got in XP now *:-D

OK, the -noforcemparms worked awesome! Thanks for that.
Now, i use a program called HLIT. Its a script for irc that makes it really easy to log on to cs and refresh servers and stuff. Anyone know of a way to retain this cmd and make it work within hlit or do i have to start using cs every time :(..
Thanks,
Melfore

update:
ok tried all the above methods, none of which solved the problem for me of mouse acceleration in quake2 :-(just an idea...
...does anyone reckon it could be possible to leech the appropriate mouse file(s) from Win2K and use them in WinXP instead? In Win2K i have a number of mouse acceleration tickboxes, yet WinXP has just the 'enhance pointer precision' checkbox, i was thinking it might be possible to like...swap a dll or something, bit out of my league though to suss it out
:-P
...

Please look at the picture below, somehow I've got 2 "wheel" tabs, and mouse pointer acceleration options with my winXP Final 2600.
http://members.optushome.com.au/gimaqt/mouse.jpg
This was using the latest intellipoint software from microsoft, a few other friends have installed it without success, must be some registry hack which TweakUI did.
Get intellipoint from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouse/download.asp

grrrrrrr
I have the same problem in q2
Mouse in XP suxxxxxxxxx!
I don't know what to do.
grrrrrrrrrr

I´ve installed XP version 2600 over RC 1 and now i have the same problems in Quake 2, very slow mouse movement when i move the mouse slow, and fast acceleration when i move it a bit faster. It worked fine with RC 1. Is it possible to use RC1 mouse drivers somehow with the final ?

Uh, whaddya mean by "thx for A3D" ? - as for me it's not working :( .. simple 2D stereo runs fine, but 3D sound is fecked up with loss, phasing and mumbling..

I've tried everything posted here, but my intellimouse explorer still moves too slow and accelerates too fast. Microsoft, fix this problem please!

I have a slightly different problem. My mouse (although only while playing half-life, or one of the direct mods like azure sheep or opposing force, but no counter strike) moves very erratically. when moved slightly in any direction it does not move the pointer, but when moved slightly faster it does a complete 180 degree turn or something. Also I have noticed that it does not play at all on openGL but all the other mods do (including counterstrike) and thus work fine. However when tured to d3d mode, the other modes cock-up also. So is it that d3d is just screwed and tat half-life has a problem running OpenGL from a TNT2 or something? I slao thin that this problm is only recurrent in XP Pro.
If anybody has fixed this problem, or thinks that they can help PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE email me the solution, I love this game and I dont want to simply allow it to gather rust in my cupboard.
My E-mail is:
hibbyhobby@hotmail.com
P.S If you fix this You will have my eternal gratitude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had similar probs - seem to be solved by disabling ALL accessibilty features for mouse and keyboard.. (as mentioned above, post #25 I think..)

guys try using -noforcemspd -noforcemaccel -noforemparms in the command line of the shortcut to half life
