Every time I try to fix the hal.dll problem, i do the bootcfg /rebuild to repair it, then it asks to add it to somethin it comes with Yes/No/All I did Yes the first time then it asks for a name and i called it hal.dll and then rebooted. It tells me I have dual operating systems now and to choose one : hal.dll or Windows XP Professional. Then I chose hal.dll, Xp would load, then goto the the login screen backgrounds but no user names would show up and all i could do was move the mouse. SO then I did it again: the bootcfg /rebuild. It asked to add it to somethin again I typed all this time. I named it Windows XP Pro and rebooted now It thinks i have 3 operating systems now. i cant get into my files and I wanna fix my problem with the Hal.dll. Please help I have try overwriting my install but it trys to do a clean install.

Why did you click hal.dll? Why wouldnt you want to use windows? If windows works fine why would you have to worry?

Print the instructions at the link below and follow it exactly as listed.
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: Windows\System32\Hal.dll
