Hello,

I installed few days ago SUSE Linux on my comp and since i have the <windows root>/windows/system32/hall.dll file missing or corrupt error message when i want to use windows XP.

I need help but please don't tell me to insert the windows XP installation CD-ROM and to choose the REPAIR option in the recovery console because i don't have this option - everyone is repeating me the same thing since one week. Actually i don't have any option on this CD. The only thing i can do is to insert the CD and wait for the installation to be done. Of course, because i miss the hall.dll file i cannot reinstall anything.

One friend gave me a solution. He told me to reinstall the hall.dll file missing in its location in c:/windows/system32 but i didn't find the location in SUSE (I think SUSE is very bad; it was the first and last time i was trying it). So finally his solution didn't work and i could not.

I just installed windows XP few days ago too and i don't have any file i want to keep on it. So all solution will be welcome.

I hope someone will be able to help me.

Thanks guys,

Jay

Since you just installed SUSE, maybe you created a new partition to do this?

If so, it may be the boot.ini file for Xp may just be pointing to the wrong partition.

Rule #1 Good computers don't go down.
Rule #2 There is no such thing as a good computer.

Try this:

A. Scannow in SFC by Start>Run and in Open: box type SFC /SCANNOW [ENTER] you will need your WinXP CD in the CD device. Wait till the files are checked and replaced properly.
If this fails try:-

1. Insert your WinXP (Home or Pro)Bootable CD (you have not mentioned the version) in the CD-Device.

2. Power Off the PC and then Power it ON.

3. Press the appropriate key [depends up on the Motherboard in a non-brand PC and the Make and Model of a Brand name PC] such as Del, F1 , F2 or whatever to enter BIOS Setup.

4. Make sure your CD-Device where you have inserted the Bootable WinXP CD in step #1 is the Boot Device BEFORE HDD [Example #1.CD, #2 FDD #3.HDD]

5. Save Settings and Exit to Boot to your WinXP setup screen

6. Here DON"T select Reapir or Cancel; select to Install

7.Later when you get a Prompt asking you wheteher you want Repair , Click Yes to try the Repair using WinXP CD if it fails Reinstall

Yes. i forgot to tell you the details of my winodws XP CD-ROM. There you are:

Driver & Utility Ver. 3.0
Multi Language
. Support Autorun for Windows XP
. Run SETUP.exe to start installation under other OS

And i repeat it again, I DON'T HAVE ANY OPTION FOR THE INSTALLATION. I just insert the CD and i just have to wait until the installation is finished. No REPAIR option, no reccovery console!!!!!!!!

Thanks guys for answering me so fast. I am very grateful. I will try your solution soon.

ok, i tried your solutions Maadhurimn. Your first solution cannot work since i cannot enter windows XP. I can just use SUSE Linux on my comp. The second solution is not working too since the Windows XP installation CD-ROM start automatically the PREINSTALLATION of windows. No recovery console as i said previously. And I cannot enter the BIOS setup by pressing F8.

By the way, my comp is an ASUS A2500D. notebook.

And by the way, i have a recovery CD-ROM for my notebook. I could do the recovery and reinstall Windows XP but the recovery is not working too (it would be too easy. ;-) ).

well, since he cannot use windows atm, sfc /scannnow is n't really an option, is it?

download your missing dll from the link below and copy it into your system32 directory
