Hello,
This morning I checked my C drive properties and noticed that, in about 24 hours, the used space had dropped from 15.4GB to 14.6GB. Nothing deleted in past 48/72 hours - and only real activities were the latest Windows and NAV updates. System seems stable/ok (perhaps a fraction slower - but I'm putting that down to me being hyper-sensitive since noticing this!)
NAV and Spybot check out OK. Norton protection on recycle bin is disabled so no purge issues.Grateful for any comments or reassurance - I'm fairly new to XP - and a born worrier!
Thanks, Martin

Martin:
Almost a full gig (15.4GB to 14.6GB) is a lot to account for, but an increase of HDD space is usually a good thing. 8-)
First thing that comes to mind: Did you perhaps decrease the size-allocation for System Restore?
Solarian

I have noticed that if I scan a number of photos into my system (and I am certain the same thing would be true of any kind of file) that my hard drive goes 'way up and a few days later it comes down again. Checking into some of the depths of XP, I discovered that many, if not all of the files I had scanned, were in temporary files. In a few days, these were deleted. I think something like this is happening to you.

Many thanks for the quick response.
George: Haven't added anything really significant over last 2 weeks or so and seem to have been virtually static at 15.4/15.6GB for past month. But it's an interesting point and adds to my education - thanks
Solarian: I think you've hit the nail on the head. I had forgotten that about 2 days (?)ago I reduced from 7% (8340MB) to 6% (6984MB). I now see that the check points start from August - having deleted those earlier.
Am getting forgetful in my old age - sorry I missed this. Thanks again for the help and putting me at ease!
Rgds., Martin
