graphics/display hangs

This is a new computer, about 2 weeks old. I have been having graphics hangs on ie6. When i open my messenger windows, or any other windows and then try to move it around on the screen it leaves a shadow, and or wipes out the colors or pictures on the screen behind it. I have to refresh the page to get it back. Does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it? i've done all the usual maintenance and downloaded all of the updates.
