Please can anyone help?!

I have been running Photoshop Elements 2, and also Ulead Photo Impact 10, on WIN XP for three years.

The fonts in Graphics software (mentioned above) are usually beautifully crisp (smooth edges) right down to 8 pt, allowing me to produce professional stand graphic design.

Recently the two programmes mentioned are not reading type correctly... ALL type (all fonts at all sizes) are unusuable, in that they are extremely jagged. I recently reloaded Windows on my PC and the fault remains...

The problem seems to be with Windows, because both Ulead Photo Impact 10 (which came loaded with my PC)and Photoshop Elements 2 don't seem to be able to understand type correctly anymore.

Are there any fixes I can apply to the graphics functioning with fonts on my computer?

Desparate for help,
Photoshopper

See if it helps by adding another 512MB.
XP uses all of, at least, 128MB to run properly,
and works better. Then you need more than that
for running other programs. Try installing 512 more.

OR, To have more RAM available at startup,
You can do Start, then RUN, then type
msconfig
Then uncheck items in the Startup tab.

To find out what each Startup(or Process) item
does or means, and any recommendation as to if you should close the process:

To add to my first response, if you are using an LCD display (monitor) you should use the native resolution for best results.

After re-installing Windows did you install the graphics drivers and reset the resolution?

Try Cleartype from Microsoft.
