I installed a Radeon 9200 SE 128MB PCI video card on my Sony Vaio PCVRX741 Desktop computer and when I plug the monitor into the Radeon card, I get a Black Screen. I think I have tried everything to get this new card to work. I have an onboard video card SiS 650_740 [Display adapter]. The Radeon web site said people have had problems installing video cards on computers with onboard ones. Does anybody know what I can do to get this video card to work or know of a video card that will work on my computer. I didn't think it would be this hard to install a video card, this computer is only a few years old, I thought computers could be upgraded. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks,
Ryan

Hi Ryan, I think I remember when you got that computer and asked several questions couple of years ago.

Anyway, did you disable the onboard graphics before installing the new card and delete the old drivers? You should directly delete them through Explore. That is necessary or you will have probs. After you disabled the graphics and deleted the drivers, power down and install the new card. Now power up. XP should detect the new card and you should get video. Okay, now follow your new card directions to install the new drivers. Then configure your resolution etc. as you want.

There is no guarantee that this will work either, but sometimes you just got to keep trying different ways.

When I switched from a Nvidia to ATI Radeon card, I had hair tearing probs until I directly went into Explore, tracked down the Nvidia drivers and manually deleted them and did the above. Then went in smooth.

Hey ranchhand. Nope this is the first time I have ever tried to install a new card. I have gone to device manager and disabled the onboard one and still didn't work. If I delete it and the new card dosn't work then im stuck arent I? I wont have any video at all will I?

There are generally only two ways to manually disable an onboard video. Either it is done through the BIOS or it is done with a jumper on the mobo itself. If you have not done that then you should go to the manufacturer'd website and research the data for that mobo to see which jumper it is. If there is no manual disconect but an auto one through the AGP slot (no auto detect with PCI) You may have problems as the auto doesn't always work and mat actually require a bios update to get it to respond properly.

I have a built computer that was upgraded to a Asus A7VB8X-X VIA. I have a 512 stick of ram an Atahlon 2100xp and I had a NVIDIA 16meg card with windows 98. Last week I put XP on my computer and for a week it was awesome and faster. Then I decide I need a new video card and the computer guy recommended the Radeon 9200 SE 128 card. My neighbor came over took out my other card put the new one in and I too got black screens when installing. Ever since I've had problems with automati reboots and blue error screens and serious errror casued by graphics driver. It would happen when I was installing a program or running Nortons. I just bought after upgrading Nortons System Works. When running a full scan it would just go to blue screen and reboot and sometimes go to blue screen and reboot again.

I couldn't find a number for ATI to call so I called Asus tech support they were here in my city. They said my driver is in a loop and that windows is trying to load its drivers instead og ATI. I didn't know at 1st my video card was causing the problem so yesterday I reformatted again and got same problems and error messages. It said Thread Stuck In Device Driver. Well one report mentioned the spontaneous reboot of the blue screen. And ATIs wesbsite said if you get the black screen it's your mother board drivers probably needing to be updated. I use Incredimail and on the 3D visulizations it kept locking up. So I called motherboard people to direct me on the right thing to download and update and it didn't work I still got serious error caused by Grapics Device Driver. So I called back and a higher up tech had me go into safe mode delete both drivers reboot and install the motherboard 1st then reboot and install the ATI drivers and I got no black screen this time. I still dont know if I am a 100% fixed yet or not. My e-mail worked but then locked up again and this one program I was in booted me out twice with blue screen and my computer restarted but I didn't get the serious error message about my graphics card. So I don't know if I am fully fixed or not.

The motherboards tech also had me reset my Bios 1st too to default settings. But after doing a search and I found where someone else had same card and problems I weanted to share mine and see If I need to do anything else if I am not fixed. I saw where it said disbaleing the onboard graphics I did not do that. So now I am wondering If I should take out video card and disable onboard graphics and start over. I was told Windows likes drivers installed in an order. So I got my motherboard drivers 1st then I did ATI and I got no black screen like I had gotten the other 2 times so I was hoping I was fixed.

But this other program booted me out and I just installed nortons system works yesterday and was wondering if I need to turn off my firewall cause i have systen works. I don't think it came with one but it said something about worm and I thoght it said there could be conflicts if I left it on I am not sure. But If anyone else has had thos problem with the video card 9200SE Radeon and your computer jsut rebooting with blue error screen pleaes tell me exactally what you did to fix it. Thanks, Rose

Sorry to reply to my own post but I don't see an edit.. Ryan said he had a Sony computer with onboard Video Card. My computer was built and I took out one card Nvidia and put in my new Radeon so I don't when I asked about turning off on board video but don't know now If I even have that option since my computer was built. Sorry for the long reply but this is the 1st I have found where someone had prblems with same video card and I've been going nuts the past few days. I am going to wait it out another day to see If I am fully fixed or not. But I will also check back here. Thanks, Rose

I also have just purchased a radeon 9200SE 128 DDR video card. I bought it to replace my GeForce 2 64MB card. It's fitting in my Dell 1.7 GHZ, 512 RAM pc quite well, the only problem is, that the fitting is the only part that works. Whenever I try to run a more visually complicated program (i.e Dark Ages of Camelot) or even try to adjust the resolution of the screen, it always reboots. I deleted all the left over Nvidia drivers, updated all the Radeon ones, I've tried installing the thing countless times, rebooting isn't even needed at the rate this thing goes. Could it be that I need a new monitor? My operating monitor is a Dell E771a 17" regular color screen monitor. I was wondering if anyone could give me any hints or tips or a straight out guide as to how to fix this problem, because it's a serious pain in the neck.

Thanks very much for whatever you can do.

Hello- I am reading the RX741 discussion about graphics cards. I thought I read on the Sony support site that you cannot install a new graphics card and have it be the primary video card (cannot fully disable the on-board integrated graphics set). Listen, I am not that computer-savvy. The reason I am curious is I bought Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 for my daughter and it will not run. I'm thinking I'm better off forgetting about getting the video card to try to make it work... advice?
