What emial client?

If you have a version of Microsoft Office, insert the CD and be sure to load Converters and Filters.

Windows XP is your operating system. In order to view specific types of files you need spedific types of software.

What is the .extension of the file you are trying to download/view?
example -
picture.jpg
txt..doc

It may be that your file associations are not set to the proper programs.

Right click the attachment and save it to a folder that you know where to find it; for example: save to your Desktop. Go to your Desktop, right click the file, choose Open With, choose a program from the list such as MS Word. If you don't have a word processor program, Windows comes with Word Pad and Note Pad. When you choose the program, put a check in the box that reads Always use the selected program to open this kind of file.

Are you having problems with other file attachments; .exe, .jpg. .xls and many others?

Sorry I haven't responded in a while, I've been very busy and will be away for the next week.

If this is happening with all senders of email attachments read on. If it is just from one person, it may be a problem on their end.

If you have tried installing the Office Tools + Filters and have tried assigning a given program to open a specific file and still are receiving the same error; its time to re-install XP over the top of the current installation. Don't choose "NEW", do choose "Upgrade" (recommended).
