Google reverted to old page & Bing stopped working

November 16, 2014 at 01:10:33
Specs: Windows XP
When going to or with WINXP in IE8 or Chrome I get an old copy of the google page with the black bar across the top. The

search results are shown differently also. The page address starts with (custom search?) and there are some

options missing . It only shows web and image, no search tools etc. Also the output is shifted to the left margin and the "go to next page" bit is

missing the arrows for next. With firefox, it is all OK.

Bing has stopped working completely in Chrome & IE. The picture is missing and none of the search actions do anything. MSN takes me to the NL page

rather than the EN-GB one. It reverts to this after I reset it. takes me to my emails OK. It still works OK in Firefox.
How do I get IE and Chrome back the way they were please?

I have cleared cache & cookies and that makes no difference.
Chrome is Version 38.0.2125.122 m. Google Chrome is up to date.
IE is V8 - the latest that will run on WINXP.
Firefox (which works OK) is 33.1

I have tried disabling addons & extensions - still the same.
All of this used to work OK. It just stopped and I cannot identify the reason.

Try resetting IE & Chrome:

Click the three horizontal bars at top-right and choose Settings.
Scroll down and click Show advanced settings.
Scroll down to bottom and click Reset settings.
Restart browser.

Tools >> Internet Options.
Click the Advanced tab.
Click the Reset button.
Restart browser.

I have just reset Chrome as I thought it may be easier to tackle one at a time so I have not tried IE* yet (partly because that is so difficult to set up all the options again)
Unfortunately, no change. Google is still as described and Bing still does not work.
Could I have accidently "lost" one of the services as I have recently uninstalled a lot of bits & pieces that I no longer use?
