For those who would like to use Google's recently released desktop search engine, but have questions and misgivings about privacy, there's a free and safe alternative which has been available.
Copernic desktop search engine will search your HDD for docs, e-mail, media files and browser history. It received an Editor's Choice award from CNET this month.

LOL. . .Good point, Wombat! Then again, how can we trust anything downloaded over the Net?
As for Copernic, it seems to have a have a good track record (no complaints from my suspicious PC buddies), and CNET has always been a reliable source of information. Like most computer-related websites, they examine software for hidden surpises (spyware) pretty carefully before they recommend it. After all, it's their reputation at stake.
At some point, I guess, one has to stop worrying and start computing. 8-)
