Is there any way to get xp to go back from Windows Media Player 11 to 9? I can only get it to go back to 10 by roll back and you can't download 9 for xp from MS any more. Anyway, I downloaded 9 from another old version website but xp won't allow it to install, says it has a newer version and forces an exit.

The reason is that Amazon sound clips will not play on media player 10 and 11 and yes I was on to their tech support and they agreed that the clips won't play.

Thanks, Trev.

If you can't get wmp 9 installed, give Media Player Classic a try as your default player.

I've had Classic installed for years but it doesn't appear in the program access list to be able to set it as default

Open MPC then press O for options, Player / Formats click on Video.

The link I gave you is a modified version of the official one.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have the version from the link you gave me but pressing options (which I never did before) just causes a crash and it can't debug. I'll try reinstalling it. I'm going to post a more general query to see if anyone has found a solution to the Amazon clips not working on mp11. I see the same query in the MS newsgroups but no solution yet.

Thanks PhilC, but that's where I downloaded wmp 9 from. No good. When you have 11 installed with xp it won;t let you go back to 9.

I've had WMP11 for a while now. I just went to Amazon.com, selected an artist, scrolled down to where the sample clips are, clicked on a few different ones & they all played. So that tells me that it's not a WMP11 issue. I can try it on my other PC to confirm if you like? Or maybe someone else is willing to give it a test run?

Ok, that's helpful. Hilarious that Amazon tech support should tell me their clips don't work with mp 11 if they do! Must have just wanted to get rid of me. Though I have seen the same issue on the Microsoft newsgroups.

I can now check everything else I can think of. Jam - do you have Internet Explorer 7 installed and do you have xp service pack 2? I'm now wondering security settings, active scripts etc.

OK - found the problem. It was actually Media Player Classic and the associated codec pack which was causing some kind of clash - hence the crashes when I was pressing options I imagine. When I uninstalled Classic along with the "XP codec pack" and the "K-lite codec pack", the Amazon clips started to work again in Windows Media Player 11. I reinstalled Media Player Classic from http://www.free-codecs.com/Media_Pl... and everything is now fine......many hours later!

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
