I need help!!! Is there a way to copy or ghost only certain programs from an old hard drive to a new one instead of the entire hard drive? I do NOT want another copy of the operating system since there is already a working operating system on the destination hard drive.

you can of course connect the old drive and try copying programs.

some programs may work, some can be fixed by manually copying missing dll files from/to the appropriate folder while other won't work at all. it all comes down to trial and error :-)

of course the best solution is re-installing software from the originl cd/source.

if you don't have them, well, try it and the best of luck :-)

Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

That talks about only files and not programs. Some settings for MS are migrated.

The normal way is to do a ntbackup and restore. As above the ability to copy the correct settings and registry entries are sometimes difficult. It can be done.

If you used Ghost 9 or 10 you could convert it to a vmplayer machinea and just use the apps when you need them.

Start using applications from places like http://www.portableapps.com
They are not stuck in the whole gotta register it with MS.
