I need to create a bootable Dual Layer DVD. It will run Ghost and pull the .gho file from the DVD itself. Ghost will run entirely from this DVD.

I have the image created as a .gho file (has 2 span files. Total size is around 7 gig.

I have Roxio software that will burn bootable cds.

I will be using this DVD to deploy images to new computers. The DVD that will read the bootable DVD is a SATA Hitachi DVD player.

I have done the goole searches and burned and wasted many Dual Layer DVD's. I have tried and tried and every time I can get the DVD to boot, but when I go into Ghost from the CD it does not show the DVD player thus allowing me to browse to the .gho image I have placed on the DVD.

Please any suggestions, please keep it simple as I don't really know much about this. I know NOTHING about DVD and Cd drivers on boot disk. Everytime before that I have done something like this, I either find an disk image or tinker and tinker until it's done.

And please keep it cheap as I can't really buy any additional sofware than what I currently have.

First off, why are you using dual layer media. From the size of the image it appears that you are only burning in single layer format anyway.
What version of Ghost are you using?
"will be using this DVD to deploy images to new computers".
If the computers are not all exactly the same your idea will not work.
Look here for Ghost support.

try posting the question on http://radified.com/cgi-bin/YaBB/Ya...

Have you tried running the "backup" from ghost in windows. This should automatically create a bootable dvd.

I don't think you can just burn ghost files to the dvd. They files have to be created by ghost.

Before posting try google. Backup. Use anti virus software.

I am using Dual Layer because the image is TOO big to fit on regular DVD's.

I realize I can span it but having it all on 1 DVD would greatly simply this process...just trust me on that please.

I am using ghost version 9.0.

I have been all over the internet and symantec, but nothing helped.

Trust me when I say I am very very inexperienced in building bootable discs.

I know virtually nothing about how to construct a boot disk with CDRom and DVD drivers.

Where di this image come from? A working computer?
As clive stated above you need to make an image of a drive. If done properly it will automatically be bootable. This will only "Restore" to a system with identical hardware. There would be issues with multiple computers running the same Windows license too.
"(has 2 span files. Total size is around 7 gig". If Ghost spanned the image then it is treating the image as burned to multiple disks. Assording to the support page I linked to Ghost does'nt support spanning on an unrecognised optical drive.

What exactly are you attempting to do here? Explain in some detail.
In order for Ghost to work properly the CD/DVD drive must be recognised by Ghost.
There are other programs better suited to CLONING a harddrive.

Thank you for your suggestions, I will follow up.

It's obvious from OthHill that my post is not understood by him. I created a .gho file on the network with span files. I need have burned the images and span files on DVD and it boots...this is the same setup that has been done for years with CDS...I have done it before...but now the platform is DVD and I can't overcome the DVD driver obstacle that is all...this post had become way more than it should.

I have used Ghost for years...I know about applying it to the hardware...that was not my question...and you ask where this image came from? This post has deteriorated.

Thanks to all who replied with understanding.

"please keep it simple as I don't really know much about this. I know NOTHING about DVD and Cd drivers on boot disk". This doesn't sound like an IT tech. Sitting here in front of my computer I can't tell your expertise. Most of my last post was relevent.

matt,
this is how i easily solved it coz i wanted the same thing. To make a backup recovery disk all on one CD/DVD.
1) create a GHOST bootable floppy disk (with CD/DVD atapi drivers). Yes... a floppy disk.
2) Use nero (or whatever else works) to make a bootable DVD with your .GHO file and a virtual floppy of your ghost floppy disk.

boot the DVD which will boot the virtual floppy image and mount the ATAPI drivers.

because the ghost executable and all the drivers may not fit on one floppy, you may have to exclude some files (like the USB drivers etc...)

ok.. after reading my last post i was not specific enough in those steps.

1) The ghost program (windows program) has an option to make a bootable ghost floppy or CD/DVD. the CD/DVD option is fine but does not work if you want to put your IMAGE file and the ghost executable on the same CD/DVD. So choose the bootable floppy option with atapi drivers. If i remember it may also ask if you want to use MSDOS or PCDOS. Use pcdos if you dont happen to have a MSDOS bootable floppy handy.
2) After creating your bootable ghost floppy, use NERO to create a bootable DVD with a virtual floppy of your ghost floppy. dont forget to add your image file too. This is one of the advanced settings in NERO burning rom. (I'm only familiar with nero and not other burning programs)

What version of Nero do you suggest using? I dont think Nero Express has the ablity to capture anything other then the boot info.
