I have tried to create a cd boot disk for a friends laptop that does not have a floppy drive.
I burned all the files but three did not burn autoexec, command and config.sys could someone tell me how to get these files so that I can add them to the cd.
I have to mention that the laptop does not have a cdrw I am using my own.
Thanking you in anticipation.

these files are found in your C drive.
before doing this, be sure to have the
"show hidden files and folders" selected.^_^ - good luck

i should tell you that you can go to
www.bootdisk.com and dl their files.saves you the trouble when someone
already has...^_^ - good luck

I have tried the above and I cannot get the cd to boot my system and I do have the cdrom drive as 1st boot device.
The files I have on the cdrom are as follows:
ghost folder
autoexec
command
config.sys
ibmbio
ibmdos
mouseCould someone let me know if I am missing something thanks.
Thanking you in anticipation.

ghost 2003 has a feature to make a bootable ghost cd-rom I thought. If that doesn't work, make a standard win98 boot disk floppy. Then open easycd creator or nero & say; make bootable cd. It will generate a image to put on the cd. Then add the ghost exe. If you want to get fancy, on the autoexebat on the floppy, add just below this line:
LH %ramd%:\MSCDEX.exe /D:mscd001 /L:%CDROM%
ghost.exeMake sure the ghostexe is named ghost. Then make the bootable cd-rom normally & after booting to it, it should start ghost for you. Always choose "add CD-rom support"
Because it then loads the generic cd rom drivers.
good luck.

Alan thanks for your reply and I will do as you stated and get back to say whether successful or not.

alans tried out your method cannot get the cd to boot my set is cdrom boot 1st device.
Correct me if I am wrong but I thought as the boot floppy for ghost that I created which works I would be able to burn the contents of the floppy onto a cd then it should work from the cd.
Could someone let me know their thoughts on this.
Thanking you in anticipation.

Hi duncan,
I may have left out details. What I do is this:
Take a standard windows 98 startup disk on floppy. Open up the autoexebat file in it, after the line there;
LH %ramd%:\MSCDEX.exe /D:mscd001 /L:%CDROM%Add this; ghost.exe then save & close it. Done there.
Right after the generic cd-rom drivers are loaded in dos, this command ghost.exe
Says start Ghost.exe on its own.
Then you must have the Ghost 2003 executable somewhere, say in my documents. It Must be named ; ghost
It’s slightly less then a megabyte. It only runs in dos (from floppy or CD-Rom bootable). So then I open Easycd creator or Nero & choose “make bootable CD-Rom” Insert that floppy you changed slightly because it will need this to make an image-then the CD bootable. Make sure it asks/choose create from floppy. Then let it do its thing, then add the ghost exe to the compilation. Make sure it’s named ghost. Burn it now if you are not adding anything else. So restart your computer, go into bios & choose “boot from CD-Rom” Save, and when it restarts, it should look like a floppy is starting but it’s the cd-rom. Choose “add CD-Rom support” or it won’t work. Right after it gets going, it should automatically start Ghost. And boom your there. Hope this helps, good luck.Alan

Hi Alan,
tried out your instructions and still could not get the cd to boot.
when I created the the bootable cd rom from easy creator 5 all updated it produced only two files to burn which had an avg file format which I thought was strange.
Your instructions up to the point of creating a bootable cd work and have been done.
At your convenience if you can help further it would be appreciated.
Thanking you and all in anticipation once again.

Hi,
here are the files on my bootable CD-R.bootimg 1.440 mb
bootcat 2 KBOpen EasyCD, go to file-New project-Bootable CD. Then a window should come up that says; Choose type of bootable disk
Choose floppy disk emulation (1.44 MB)
Emulation option-choose Generate image from floppy. please insert a bootable floppy disk in drive A: click OK.
This is the boot disk you already made and altered the autoexebat as stated before. Then it will run for ~35 seconds. Then you should see in the compilation window, the two files mentioned above. BOOTIMG & BOOTCAT. This is the floppy boot image that will be burnt on to the CD-r. Now add the ghost executable to this, named ghost. Either you need to have Ghost 2003 installed & copy this from that folder, or just saved from somewhere. It is .97 MB in size. It only works in Dos. Now burn this. Restart your computer, press Delete or F2 to get into the Bios & select-Boot from CD-rom First. With this CD in, restart & then it should boot from it & act like a floppy-choose add cd-rom support or something like that. Then it should run ghost from the cd-r.
Good luck!

Alan,
Followed your instructions and nearly got it to work except that when booting with the newly burnt cd I got the message that the NTLDR was missing and press any key to restart and the same message.
Any thoughts on this?.
Thanking you once again for your time and effort.

It could be NTLDR is corrupt or the MBR is corrupt. Recovery console can fix the MBR. "fdisk /mbr" might do the trick, if the problem is in the master boot record. Do a google search on NTLDR missing & see what you think. Be careful.
Best,
Alan

Alan,
Thanks for your info will check out what you said and if I come up with anything will post back ok mate.
Thanks again for your time and effort much appreciated.
Will be glad when I finally get this sussed.
regards,
duncan
