Hey guys,

Have searched the site, searched Symantec's site, searched Google and such, and found nothing useful.

Has anyone had any luck running Ghost (10) with .NET framework 2.0?

I always get an error saying that .NET framework 1.1 is required. Am I going to have to go back and install 1.1 and then 2.0 again? I really fear 1.1. :)

Thanks!

Norton Ghost 10 will work only with Net Framework 1.1.

Thanks XP, that's what I figured.

So if I uninstall 2.0, would it just be a matter of installing 1.1, then 2.0 over the top of that (I never installed 1.1 first on this machine), or will I be unable to install 2.0?

.NET framework versions should run side by side...You should be able to just install 1.1 directly without uninstalling 2.0, although I've never tried it. If that doesn't work, uninstall both, install 1.1, then install 2.0. Unless symantec has really gone outside the standard and does manual check for the existence of unsupported versions, the framework will run the program in the version of the framework it was created in.

You can see which versions you have installed by going to c:\windows\microsoft.net\Framework and see the folders whose names are their version numbers. I belive the latest ones are:
v1.0.3705
v1.1.4322
v2.0.50727

I currently have no problems running 1.1 programs and 2.0 programs simultaneously.

Good luck,

Cool, thanks SN.

I uninstalled everything and went back to 1.1 (sp2) so I could ghost this drive. I'm going to try installing 2.0 in just a sec. We'll see if Ghost (and a couple other programs) runs after that.

Hmmmmmmmm. I'm showing
v1.0.3705
v1.1.4322
v2.0.50727

even though I uninstalled 2.0. Whatever. :)

I am currently using Ghost 10 and I have the .Net framework 2.0 and have had absolutely no troubles at all. I have used the Ghost 10 software in a variety of ways and all works fine. Not quite sure as to what to say about your situation but just thought that you might like to know that they two programs do work together.

Norton programmers coded Ghost 10 to work with framework version 1.1 only because version 2.0 didn't exist (or wasn't even envisioned) at that time. Today they apparently see no reason to recode the entire Ghost 10 program just to enable it to work with framework version 2.0. (the effort will be prohibitively too expensive).

You can however have framework 1.1 & 2.0 coexist on your HD with no problem.

Security718-
You probably have framework 2.0, but ghost is still running on framework 1.1 that you probably also have on your computer. In other words, when you install 2.0, you don't change anything in your 1.1 installation, and programs compiled for version 1.1 will not run under version 2.0.

It probably wouldn't be that big of a deal for norton to just recompile ghost using version 2.0...There's only a few things that got moved or removed completely. But IMHO it would just add unnecessary confusion.

I don't know why the 2.0 folder still exists...But hopefully it's mostly empty. I'm not sure what you mean sp2 though - I think there's just the one service pack to version 1.1.

Nope, actually loaded with as much junk as the other framework folders.

Yeah, that was a typo. :) I meant SP1.
