Hi,
I have win xp and it came preloaded with msn's messenger. I have tried to get it out of the systray by clicking exit and it just keeps showing up. I haven't rebooted or anything like that. It just keeps showing up. I went to msconfig and under the services tab I disabled it and it still shows up. Not in the msconfig startup profile either. I went to add remove programs and it is not there to remove. It is annoying. How do I get rid of it?

I found this worked the best for me. I found it here on this forum just an older post
Another way to do it, a little less tedious. Try this:
To disable Windows Messenger in Windows XP Professional Edition:Click Start, click Run, type gpedit.msc, and then press ENTER.
Navigate through the following:
Local Computer Policy
Computer Configuration
Administrative Templates
Windows Components
Windows MessengerDouble-click Do not allow Windows Messenger to run, and then click Enabled.
Click OK, and then quit the Group Policy snap-in.http://computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/563.html Response #15

I got rid of Messenger and found Outlook express took forever to load/run! I changed the setting back and everything was fine again. Maybe I'm not the only one this has happen to?

Open Outlook.
Click on Tools, then Options.
Click the Other tab.
Uncheck the 'Enable Instant Messanging in Outlook' box.
Apply, then OK... should trouble you no more.

It's pretty much the same for Express, I may add. Just go into Tools/Options and find the box that talks about Messenger... uncheck it.
