Thanks
Nic

Do you mean 'Activate'? I don't know of any 'validate' operation.
Do yourself a favor BACKUP!
Sorry, I do not check for private messages

ok you know when you go to a file>Help>"Is this windows genuine"? you click that then it says like "Validate Now" and you click that and it tells you if your computer key is a valid key and if you got valid windows. Well when i do that it says im invalid, not genuine. i need the option called "Use Alternate Validation Method"
Nic

This is not Windows update, furthermore there is only one alternate way of going legit and it involves activating your copy of XP with a legally aquired Product Key.

I have had to validate before but it meant downloading a validation thing that checked your computer to make sure that is was legit. I cannot remember what is was, and since I have a valid/legal copy I don't know more than that. I do know that if you enter in the wrong serial number it will ask you to download and run a windows verification tool.

no jsut when you click "Validate now" that button b4 you click it at the bottom there should be in blue writing"Alternate Validation Method" on the microsoft page when u click a folder>help>is this windows genuine? and ggo down on that page if theres a "Alternate Validation Method" typed below the "Valiadate Now" button its in blue writing i think and says exactly "Alternate Validation Method" and if you click that your on a new page i need that pages URL please!

Ah yes that is what I had to se myself, but just wondering why would you need the URL as you could just follow the steps at microsoft and get the same results. Just asking, no offense intended.

ok thats not it
im looking for the page that has like 7 steps like Step 1:how to buy a key (the keys only about 7 letters i think)Step 2: this step asks for a key it has a box where you put the key you get after you bought itNic

It is referring to an alternate method to install the ActiveX component which is the validation tool.
If you look in the Information bar it tells you that your settings do not allow the component to be installed.
So, lower your security settings in IE, Tools, Internet Options, Security and set it to it's default settings or Low via the Custom Settings button.

OK nic777
While there is nothing wrong with an 11yr old wanting to learn so much about computing as your sheer dogged enthusiasm reflects, however your stark impatience and tantrum attitude will not get you anywhere sooner.
First you are confused and you need to get your information straight, I don't know what magic anyone told you that specific URL will do to validate you but just so you know web contents change perodically and on a site like Microsoft's, this happens very often depending on the content's subject.
As Bryan hinted, the "blue" alternate method is nothing other than a link that allows you to manually download "GenuineCheck.exe" the hitherto validation executable.
All this changed few months back and what Microsoft uses now is called "legitcheck.hta" and can be downloaded in at least a couple of ways. Ironically the infamous "alternate method" in your head is the normal and most popular route, but unfortunately you want the page to lead you mysteriously someplace else.
Naturally, Microsoft expects you to get to that page from this one and it should take you to what your "blue" alternate method page now looks like today (Microsoft could even change it before you get to read this.....LOL). Now if you click on the "blue" alternate method button, you then get the "Validate Now" page and pretty much all you get is finally the dialog box to either download and either run or save legitcheck.hta if you prefer to run it offline later.
My original response has what may help you, but I doubt you'll ever admit that. You still have so much to learn.
Goodluck.
