i have all the updates installed for xp pro and i guess one of them made me have a login screen when i fire it up. i don't have a password nor do i have any other users other than myself. how do i get rid of this so when i boot up it goes straight to the desktop? thanks.

NET Framework 3. Remove Useless User Accounts ( near the bottom of the page ) mywebpages.comcast.net/S...CD/SecureXP.html Windows XP Creates additional User accounts that are of no use to the average user. aspnet_wp and the ASP.NET account can be removed if you do not do .NET development work.
The account it adds is called ASP.NET Machine. It is in User Accounts in Control Panel, and it IS SAFE to delete.
Log into your normal account, open User Accounts and delete the ASP.NET Machine account. Now you will be able to boot straight in, ASP.Net is what changed your log in.
