so i don't have a firewall on, or automatic updates...or a virus scanning program. say all you want, i just don't like stuff running in the background. i can handle myself, i've been doin it for years and my computer runs flawlessly. i have winxp pro with all the updates. how do i get that little icon on the bottom left to go away and stop poppin up a bubble telling me what to do every time i start up and once in a while. its the windows security alerts icon..its a red shield with a white x in the middle. some registry tinkering maybe? any help is appreciated.
thanks.

That is from your Security Centre. Click on this red shield and when the next window opens click on "Change the way Security Centre alerts me". Three options will be offered. Remove the tick marks from all three, click OK and you will not see the red shield in the Notification Area again.
