I have Internet Explorer 6 on XP SP2. I tried to get the beta of IE7 (beta 2). The installation was a failure. I uninstalled IE 7. When i went into IE 6 again, it didnt work. It loaded the window and then gave me the "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" dialog box. Then it closes. If i send an error report, no useful information can I find. I really dont know what to do. I think the solution is to get rid of IE and reinstall it. Is that even possible?

FYI you cannot get rid of IE. The geeks in charge of Redmond camp tied it to the OS. In other words you remove it you kill XP.

Why use IE Beta 2? IE RC1 is avalable and is an improvemnt on Beta 2.

Curl up to a nice cozy fire and read through these links below, not for the faint of heart:

Keep the old stuff running

IE is integrated into Windows. Even if you don't use it, a lot of the software that supports IE also supports other browsers and other things in Windows.
regarding per's eldergeek link
- you shouldn't have to install IE 6 at the end of that because that's what XP comes with, but it probably wouldn't hurt.If those methods don't work for you, do an XP Repair Setup.
Since IE 6 is built into XP, it will repair IE 6.An XP Repair Setup will not harm your existing Windows installation, but it can only fix things Windows detects as wrong, and/or replace corrupted or missing Windows files that are on your original XP CD. If running it doesn't cure enough of your problems and/or the problems are caused by things not on the original Windows CD, you will probably have to make a clean install of Windows from scratch.
You will need a Windows CD of the same version as the one of your Windows installation, and the Product Key, preferably the one that was used to install it, but it can be one for the same version as the one of your Windows installation.how to do an XP Repair Setup, step by step:
http://www.windowsreinstall.com/win...If you have a brand name system, it may have come with only a Recovery CD instead of a Windows CD. Some Recovery CD's are actually Windows CD's with added stuff that allows you to access the hidden partition and restore your original software - that type can be often be used the same way as a Windows CD.
If your Windows CD did not have SP1 or SP2 included, and you updated to SP1 or SP2, you will have to install that again to get SP1 or SP2 working properly again.

See, i really dont want to get rid of IE. just get it off of the system and get a "fresh" working copy back on. I'll try some above suggestions. I must also note that I now notice other problems. Outlook Express gives the exact same problems. Messenger opens, signs in and then the window doesnt change, things just get a bit garbled and freeze. Obviously there is a IE system problem.

You can remove IE by going to Add Remove Programs > Windows Components.
