Hi,

I renamed my (proper) administrator account to something else and reduced all my users (including myself) to limited users to tighten up security. XP didn't want to let me reduce the last normal user from Admin to limited using the User Accounts icon in Control Panel, even when I was logged on as the proper administrator. I had to go into Admin tools, Users & Groups to do it.

Anyway, when I'd successfully reduced everyone to Limited User status, two things happened: -

1. On the Fast User Switching screen where everyone has an icon to click to logon, the proper administrator user was displayed - how do I un-display it?
2. I use Ad Ahield as a pop-up stopper, and when I tried right-clicking an ad to add it to the block list, I suddenly didn't have access rights to add to the block list. I tried seeing if I could run Adshield as Administrator, but there is no entry on the Start button for Ad Shield because it is integrated with IE and isn't run seperately. Is there a way of running Ad Shield with elevated rights?

Many thanks in advance,

Roger.

Hi Roger, try this site, it may be very helpful to you.

For your second question, does this work if you are already logged in as Admin? Try it and block the ad.

Hope that helps.

Kevin.

This might work for Question 2:
Start > Run msconfig. Look for ad-shield under the Startup tab, and modify the command to call runas .

By the way, the Mozilla/Firebird web-browser features pop-blocking/ad-blocking a a lot of other great features!

Kevin,

Thanks, that's just what I need re hiding the admin account. In answer to your question, yes I can block ads when logged in as the administrator, just not when logged in as a limited user. I've tried searching fro an exe file to set "run as" on it but there isn't one. Maybe it's a DLL, but if so I've no idea which or even if you can set "run as" on DLLs.

Cyberslug, I tried what you suggested, but Ad Shield doesn't appear in any lists in msconfig. Mind you,I did see a service running that I thought I'd stopped, so it did some good looking in there! :-)

Thanks for the help guys!

Roger.
