Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a "GENERIC" XP HOME Installation CD?
I often help folks who need to have Windows XP Home re-installed. They often have a Dell, HP, etc computer with the offical XP Home Reg tag on the side with the legal XP Key.
Problem is, very often, they do not have their original XP CD or the Recovery CD (lost, etc).
Sometimes (like with an HP)....there is a recovery partition on the HD...but usually Not.
Is there...(or is there a way to make) an XP Home installation CD which can use any Installation serial as long as it is legal?
Thanks Very Much

in such cases i'm using my 'generic' xp sp2 oem cd (courtesy of dell, slipstreamed with the most common sata/raid drivers and the latest bug fixes), works with any oem key and will pass the wga muster with flying colours if required.

I think winfuture has a facility to create a non oem disk. I couldn't work out how to do it though. Rockxp can change license keys.

mattie, where did you get the instructions to make the CD? I tried making an XP Home install CD a while back with the OEM OS install CD, my current drivers, SP2 and all updates and couldn't get it to work.
