Hi,

Can anyone please help me, very recently i've been having some errors come up on mu computer when i turn it on, it says 'Generic host win32 has encountered a problem and needs to close', and i can only click 'ok' to make it go away or look at the log, i also found out by looking at the log that it is related to svchost.exe. The thing is it does not happen all the time when i turn my computer on, it only happens every 5-6 days(i turn my comp ooff every night, then on in the moring), and once i click 'ok' to make it go the system works fine(only had the error 3 times so far).

The first time i realised it happened was one night when i virus scanned my computer with AVG7, on the system areas scan it would say in the results column that c:\windows\system32\shell32.dll has changed, so i clikced ok to keep the change, because if i didnt it would keep coming back, and then the next morning when i turned my computer on, is the first time the error came up, since then the error comes up every 5-6 days, which is why i dont think thats its a virus/trojan/spyware, as i have also ran upto date avg/spybot/adaware/trojan scan and the have all been clean.

so can someone please tell me why i get these errors sometimes and how i can fiz it.

thanks in advance.

Windows Worms Doors Cleaner
http://www.firewallleaktester.com/wwdc.htm
Most of the worms, in particular the most famous, use known vulnerabilities in Windows services which are enabled by default and that often can't be disabled via the OS's configuration. Even with these services patched with Microsoft security fixes, they are still exposed to the Internet at large ready to be exploited by the next exploit. Server side services are not covered by windows worms doors cleaner which aims only home users computers, who themselves shouldn't run any webservers.
These webservers should be patched and can't really be disabled without removing the service offered to the Internet (like the website).

These ports/services on client side are :

* DCOM RPC (listen on port 135) MS03-026
* RPC Locator (port 445) MS03-001, MS04-011
* NetBIOS (ports 137/138/139) MS03-049
* UPNP (port 5000) MS01-059
* Messenger service (uses RPC/NetBIOS ports) MS03-043

Windows Worms Doors Cleaner allows you to close these services the worms rely on.

Note : Kerio Firewall 2.1.5 (I suppose so the whole 2.x series) has a bug while disabling Locator and/or NetBT service, it displays the following error message "Windows - Fatal Application Exit. Kerio Personal Firewall Driver : Unable to attach 'TCP'". However unlike I have said in the previous note, Kerio 4.x series is not affected by this bug. There is nothing I can do about the Kerio bug, I can't fix their software, and Kerio would probably answer you that the update is the 4.x series.

=> a fix recently available Here

i dunno if this will help. but i found this on another forum after googling.. it may help..

How people get this error I do not know but once you get it, it can drive you ***** INSANE!

I got it, formatted my hard drive, installed my modem and it was there, i could go on the internet for no more than 2 minutes before something would ***** up!

but did this:

Please perform the below steps to resole the issue:

1. From the Window Desktop, click Start, and then click ControlPanel.
The Control Panel will open.

2. Double-click the Administrative Tools icon. The Administrative Tools window will open.

3. Double-click the Services icon. The Services window will open.

4. Double-click the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) icon. The Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Properties (Local Machine) windows will open.

5. On the General tab, click the drop-down arrow in the Start-up Type box and select Disabled.

6. Click Stop. A window will open with a message stating the service is being found. When the message closes, verify the ServiceStatus displays Stopped. Repeat this step if necessary.

7. Click Apply, and then click OK.
