you, like the other thousands of people in the world have been infected with the blaster worm. you need to go to norton.com and get the removal tool, you can also read up on the worm there too. then you need to go to microsoft and download the vulnerability patch.

ps if you dont already have a firewall it is a MUST have now! you can download a very good one here: www.kerio.com
And it is FREE!

best of luck

Did you follow the instrutions regarding disabling System Restore at the bottom of this page:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.removal.tool.html

If not, then it will live and spawn again.

alright,
this is what u need to do.(actually to tell you the truth it didnt find it on mine either;) ) go to symantec again. and get that screen up thats all about the blaster worm, then scroll down and it will tell you all the steps to get rid of the blaster worm yourself. then be sure to download the patch from microsoft also!

P.S.
one other thing you could do before the stuff i just said is. boot up in safe mode.( i think its F8 u press rapidly on the startup) then when booted up in startup run the symantec scan again to see if it finds it. if it does great, go and install the microsoft patch, and if it doesnt go into regualer mode and do the manual removal steps posted on the symantec site

best of luck

thanks, but I checked for msblast.exe and the system couldn't find it. I ctrl-alt-del and msblast doesn't show up in processes. are you sure that's what it is?

I should also mention that the computer doesn't have a countdown when it shuts down. it just does it. I also get a box after I click okay from the error that wants to send info about the error to microsoft. I don't bother but this seems different from the other reports of the virus i've heard.

i find that very weird how there isnt a 60 second countdown. but anyways. here is another option

1. go to the start menu and click on run
2. type regedit and click ok, your registry should appear.

DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT SURE OF, THE REGISTRY IS A SCARY PLACE.

3. go to the top of your registry and find the "edit" tab. open it.
4. in the edit tab click on find.
5. in find what: type BILLY, then click search. if it finds a file named billy and you think it is worm related delete it.
6. you can also go back to the search and type in msblast.exe. if it finds the file and you think it is worm realted delete it.

best of luck, if you get rid of these files( at least BILLY then you will be ridd of the worm)
