Ok I am new here and should explain first of all that I am not at all computer literate and any advice will need to be in non tech speak if at all possible.
Ages ago I was having difficulty with my laptop and it was starting up funny and changing the look of the desktop etc, generic host problems etc. Well it went to back to normal by itself but has done the same a few times since. I have worked out that it happens everytime after I’ve done a windows update. Also on start up it says generic host process for win32 error and the date for that is below. Also svchost is showing in task manager and using almost 100% cpu – so my comuter is very very slow! Internet connection will randomly fail also. I have look on the net for answers and it appears that there was a problem with windows updates which caused these symptoms so I downloaded the hotfix fro the MS website but it’s still happening! Do you know what I should be doing to fix this? In the middle of a uni assignment which is done online and it’s not great when I keep losing my connestion!

You need to protect the computer at all times with a firewall and antivirus program. You also need to run on a regular basis AdAware and Spybot programs to make sure there is no malware on the computer hard drive.Updates to these programs are important to keep ahead ofthe problems like the ones you describe. You can easily find free programs for those tasks on the Web like Avast antivirus and Kerio firewall.

I use avg, adaware and spybot none of these have found any problems. As I say I am certain that the problems are in someway linked to windows updates.
