I have the "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" problem but I've searched this site and Microsoft but I can't find my exact situation. It only shows up when I'm on the internet (dial-up) but sometimes it shows up 30 minutes after I connect, 4 hours, or sometimes not at all. Can someone please help me with this very annoying problem?

Have you installed sp2 & the hotfixes?

Try turning off Automatic Updates.

You may experience frequent unexpected reboots due to the activities of the MSBlast Worm. The specific message in the System Shutdown window that pops up will be "Windows must now restart because the Remote Procedure Call [RPC] service terminated unexpectedly".
You may also get an alert box labelled "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" that says "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close".

No idea what you tried, just a matter of finding the right fix.

If you are not using WinXp Pro this will not help, I believe.
If you are using WinXp Pro, you can find exactly what the problem is by going to the
Administrator Tool
Event Viewer
Then checking under each category for possible problem.

I would clear all the logs the wait for the problem to occur again then check the log. Otherwise you would have to go through the logs and try and determine which of the entries is the occur you are looking for.

I am currently also having a similar problem and am in the mites of investigating it. My problem has to do with a dll name "netapi32.dll".
This particular dll is contained in a "svchost.exe" and if the dll fails it closes down a lot of other items.
Do you lose your "sound" capabilties ??
If so we have the same problem.

I download a new "netapi32.dll" from MS and are trying it to see if my problem had been solved. If you are interested in the new dll here is the address
MS netapi32

Since the problem is random in nature, I will just have to wait and see if the problem reoccurs.
