Comment:

Out of the blue, upon booting up I receive an error message:
"Generic Host Process for Win32 Services encountered a problem and needed to close"

And another which states that the GHP for Win32 was closed to protect my computer.

I've run virus scans several times...all seems fine.

Any idea what this means and how to eliminate it?

I've had the same problem, and that link for Microsoft doesn't seem to apply to me. I have a laptop which I use exclusively for writing and internet use. This shouldn't be a driver issue, as suggested by Microsoft. Does anyone have any other suggestions on this? Thanks

Nope, but I have the exact same problem and that Microsoft link is not applicable to me either as I never installed my printer or scanner and also use my laptop soley for typing and internet use.

Anybody?

Good to know I'm not alone...I have had the same problem happening 3 times the last 2 weeks upon booting my laptop. I get szAppName svchost.exe, but the rest of the message says 0.0.0. and unknown. What's happening here?

Hi i have same problem, but access internet via lan card, not USB modem. But have HP printer connected onto USB port, maybe it is something related to USB ports. The problem isn't in hp driver because I have good working of XP with HP printer long before that error occured.

I have been experiencing this problem lately as well. The PC's that are having this problem are using an ethernet connection and are not connected to printers or scanners. Still looking for a solution. Could this be one of Microsoft's updates gone awry?

Well, I am not using a USB modem. I do not have any scanners or printers attached or running. My error is the same, and has repeated itself about 10 times. I am still working on the error. I have saved one of the error files if anyone is interested.

I have had the same error twice during the past week (szAppName: Svchost.exe, szAppVer: 0.0.0.0). I do use a USB modem, but have no printer connected.

The first time, it happened just after I installed software that came with my new digital camera (Nikon). I then uninstalled it, reinstalled it, and didn't get the error again.

Not sure if this is related, but since then, I have been getting frequent "page cannot be displayed errors" on IE, and also problems accessing pages with FireFox.

This morning I uninstalled the camera software again, downloaded a different photo application from the same vendor, and then got the same "generic host process" error.

I have got the same error and I suspect it is a bug from the modules that Windows Update has applied to our machine.

You will notice you previously does not have this message, and I am sure you guys run Windows Update very frequently.

Regards,
Steven
