Comment:

I`ve just installed XP Pro but I can`t found the regular drivers for my graphic card GEFORCE4 MX420.

First I`ve downloaded the older driver version (41.09), as well as the newest versions (45.23 & 45.24). Before every installation I unistalled the previous driver installation. During every driver installation a pop up window would come out with information that the hardware is not tested on some kind of a 'logo' (or whatever), but I would continue the installation anyway. This pop up window wouldn`t come out only when I was installing the 45.23 version. Ok, so I`ve installed the drivers and the graphic card was recognized in the Device Manager window, but the MAIN problem is that when I want to restart the computer, XP won`t load. So I must choose "Latest good configuration" and when XP starts it goes again: Windows has found a new hardware and is locating drivers for it... Please help!

I have CPU AMD Athlon XP, 1600 MHz (6 x 267) 1900+ Motherboard Gigabyte GA-7DXE (5 PCI, 1 AGP, 3 DIMM, Audio) System Memory 256 MB (PC2100 DDR SDRAM)

download the drivers from http://www.prolink-usa.com/english/download.html
unzip them in a certain location, startup using the last know good config and select the folder where u unzipped them when u get a new hardware found prompt.

i had a similar problem with ATI card and i spent 2 weeks figuring and trying everything out and i ended up formatting the hard drive. This should solve the problem without formatting though.

The driver isn't installing correctly.

This is prob cos u have installed several drivers and the .inf files are still there messing things up !!

Open C:\Windows\Inf (hidden folder) and look for NV3.inf or NV4.inf (may be diff numbers). Open in notepad to confirm they are NVidia inf files - then delete them.

If u have onboard graphics, it's usually best to physically remove ur GeForce card and boot with that - Windows will forget u ever had a GeForce card.
Make sure that ur Geforce is removed in device manager.

Then shutdown and re-fit/re-install ur GeForce again and hopefully it will install correctly.

I don`t have any other video cards :(

I`ve installed XP once again and this time I tried only with the drivers I`ve got with my video card (v27.42). I specify the location - the folder on the CD with the GeForce drivers for XP, and after installation the video card seems to be recognized in the Device Manager and in Display/Settings along with the exact type of my monitor for witch I haven`t got any drivers installed (?).

The weird thing is that the resolution in Display/Setting is set on the lowest (640x480) and the color quality is 8 bit, although the resolution and the color quality I see it is 1024x768 / 32 bit.

Anyway, I restart the machine and the XP won`t load, it goes to a blank screen, but in the background I can hear the XP startup sound. (!)

Then I go to Safe Mode, log on as Administrator, and uninstall GeForce4 MX420 under Display Adapter, but I leave the installed NVIDIA drivers. When I restart the machine, this time it wants drivers for the exact type of my video card (GeForce4 MX 420) witch means it has recognized it. I point once again to the CD-ROM, but when I restart the machine it just won`t load. I`m going nuts!
