Specs: Windows xp

My desktop had been working fine, turned it off one night and then went to restart the next morning and the screen will turn on for a couple of seconds to the rgb square in the middle and then it will go black.....what could this be?

Did you check the cables? Have you tried the monitor on another computer? Or another monitor on the problem computer?

Possibly your PC has died. If you normally get a single beep when powering up and you don't now, your PC is dead.

yes i have hooked a working monitor up to my comptuer tower and still nothing.......my comptuer turns on and I can hear it running along with the blue light on the tower is lite up. what else could it be?

ageis is correct. Sounds like you've likely got a P/S or other major problem such as mobo, RAM, etc. (lights may still be on/disk spin even when some of the voltages are present, but if they're all not there it could be serious power-supply trouble). There's a few simple solutions you could try (see link to .PDF file below), but if you're not familiar with the innards of a PC (or feel uncomfortable inside one) then it'd be best to take it to a service tech or start saving up for a new machine....
